Christmas In July -- Yes, Another Giveaway!

Ok, by now, y'all probably are completely bug-eyed at all the giveaways around this place . . . not to mention the HUNDREDS of free things spilling from here.

Yet, I, being the crazy and generous sort that I am . . . I have another offer for you.

Most of these giveaways we've all been speedily visiting and frantically entering with our names and pertinent information are items we can currently use and will receive very soon after the giveaway is over.

What I am offering you is a set of 24 handmade Christmas cards . . . again an assortment, because I detest making the same card over and over again. It just stunts my creativity and puts me in a box . . . creates one more need for therapy, and who has the money for that! I am giving this stuff away, remember!?!

I have no photo right now of any Christmas card, but I may post one before the end of the week : ) I know you may not be able to tell with this dark photo, but the card stock in this particular example is hunter green with an ivory fleck on the inside. There is also verse on the inside, but I couldn't get that photo to cooperate this morning.

Anyway, back to the giveaway. I will choose a winner from anyone who comments by 5 pm, Friday, July 27.

However, the clincher is . . . you will not receive the cards from me any time before September 1. If you're like me, you won't be filling out Christmas cards before Thanksgiving anyway, so this shouldn't put you in a bind to wait until Sept. to get these.

Now, to make this a little more fun than just putting . . . "Enter me, please!" . . . I would like for you to tell me your favorite Christmas song (religious or secular) and tell me why it is your favorite.

I'll get things started. I love, love, love Christmas music and listen to it every month of the year except January.

My all-time favorite is Silent Night. When I became a mommy the first time, I had such a small repertoire of songs to sing for my new baby that I resorted to singing Silent Night every night for the first year. It just continued with all of my babies until it became the most requested at our house, no matter what time of year.

My new fave is this song by Third Day. It touches my heart and reminds me of a desire God laid on my heart five years ago.

So, now it's your turn. Tell me your favorite Christmas Song and why it's your favorite!

Oh, I would love the cards!

My traditional favorite is "Joy to the World." I also always cry when I hear the Steven Curtis Chapman song about going home for Christmas. My grandfather died in December (a few years ago), and the following week I heard the song for the first time.

You "stole" my favorite! *wink* Before the Vikings, it was a toss up between "Silent Night" and "Away in the Manger" but after nursing two newborns through long cold winter nights, I can't barely get through the first verse of "Silent Night" without crying! LOL

I'm also a fan of pretty anything onAmy Grant's "Home for Christmas" album - especially "Breath of Heaven (Mary's Song)"

I have several of them. I've always loved "Do You Hear What I Hear" from when I was a child. Can't exlain the reasoning.

But in terms of newer songs, I love Kenny Rogers with "Mary, Did You Know" That one brings me to tears every time. I think it has something to do with being a mother and imagining how Mary must have felt (as if anyone could!)
Thanks for the opportunity to win a great prize,

"Oh Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" The version that I LOVE is sung by a men's choir (not sure of name) and they sing it acapella. Absolutely beautiful! And then my other favorite is "I wanna hippopotamus for Christmas", mainly because it's cute and fun and it seems to get on people's nerves. hehe (You've got it in your head now, don't you?) Oh, and I can't forget, just about any version of "Oh Holy Night" Ok, I must stop now.

There are so very many Christmas songs I like but the one I usually start to sing earliest in the season is one I learned in Spanish I back in 7th grade -- Hacia Belen. It tells of Mary and Joseph going to Bethlehem.

Why do I like this so much? I'm not sure. The melody can get into my mind and heart and stay there, making joyful music for me all day long.

On a different note (no pun intended), there are two secular Christmas songs by Cledus T. Judd that rock our van as we drive: Merry Christmas From The Whole Fam Damily and Only 364 Shopping Days 'Til Christmas.

It is so very hard to pick just one song, because Christmas is kind of a big deal with my family/extended family/boyfriend's family.

Basically, anything off of Bing Crosby's White Christmas cd will reduce me to a puddle of nostalgia. "Holly and the Ivy" and "White Christmas" are definitely my top two - they're both beautiful songs that remind me of us all getting bundled into the car with mugs of cocoa to go browse Christmas lights.

I love Christmas songs too. I am not sure that I have a favourite, but I play a variety of Christmas music for all of December, and that is enough to annoy my husband.
I have a particualr fondness of Good King Wenceslas because it was one of the first songs I learned to play on the piano.

Currently my favorite Christmas song is a simple classic. It is "Jingle Bells". Only because when my son was two last Christmas and singing this non stop in his lttle voice with some made up words it was too cute.

My favourite Christmas song is "Mary Did You Know?". I had never heard it before until a very good friend played it for me and we listened to the words over and over again. She has since moved away, but everytime I hear it, I think of her.

Wonderful giveaway, and so generous. My fav Christmas song is O Holy Night. I actually had never heard song (while I lived in England) until I met my hubby and came to CA to be married and meet his family. We married on 19th Dec and I heard that song the first Christmas I spent with his Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles and cousins (he's an only child). I loved it instantly, then I heard it a few years later sung by one of my fav singers, Celine Dion and that is my all time favorite version. :-)

My true favorite is "The Little Drummer Boy". I just love the story, that this little boy knew Jesus was so special, had nothing "material" to give him, so gave what he could...something he could do himself..a part of himself - his music
